Riding Day 9 Our first day back in the saddle was highly productive and beautiful! We covered 87.3 miles in 5+45 minutes of riding time spread out over roughly 8 hours of total time. There were a few hills initially, but nothing that resembled the hills of a few days ago. The road, Highway 70, was very busy and for the first 20 or so miles the shoulders were more akin to a battlefield or were completely non-existent, which meant that we were either getting rattled to death, or risking actual death as we had to ride on the road. Most of the drivers were cool and gave us room, but there’s always a few folks who try to give a bike rider the squeeze. By mid-morning the shoulders had become constant and much smoother, and the rest of the ride was fast and uneventful, except that we experienced our first flat tire, which occurred after over 600 miles of riding…not too shabby.
I have to wonder if you are taking photos or something fancier like those go-pro's. I always try to give bikers and joggers as much room as I can and it shows in the feeble or energetic wave that give you as you proceed on down the rode. I wonder who the patron saint of bike riders is and hope that she is watching over you guys.
Thank you for the respectful write up. However I do feel the need to stand up for Dustin and I from a few of these rude comments about us. Seasonal adventurers at times? We’ve been traveling full time for the last 4 years and we are both highly accomplished Alpinists. As for being slower, they mentioned we are completely self supported. That means we are carrying everything we need on our bikes. I clarify all of this because we are people who deserve the upmost respect for our accomplishments. Not to be categorized as slow hare brained midwesterners. Don’t believe me? IG: @forever_alpine Thanks.

Tumbleweeds.
The essence of enlightenment and zen is being in the moment.
