Riding Day 33 – 86.48 miles Everybody was awake and moving this morning by 6:30. We we’re staying in the Navy Lodge at Naval Air Station Pensacola, and after taking full advantage of the free breakfast, we packed up our belongings and drove 30 miles back to Gulf Shores to our ending point from the previous day. The torrential rains had ceased in the middle of the night, and the sun was already warming the air and causing steam to rise from the ground.
You had me right there with you on that bike path you described. I'm sure you shouted out on your left a few times and I wondered if you had one of those bells you could ring? Probably not, since this was not a problem for the earlier parts of your ride.
I've enjoyed all your posts, however this one was special in some way.
I have a friend that likes to tell me his favorite Latin phrase whenever I'm making attempts at adventure, "Carpe Diem", is what he always tells me and I really appreciate it!
I remember being in Panama City and thinking every other sign bragged about air brushed souvenirs and t-shirts. That was the 1980s so I’m sure that’s been replaced by digital! You guys are so close and my amazement for what you are accomplishing thrives.
With your ultimate mileage goal in site, it sounds to us that have been following you three in your physical goal , that you have reached a more awareness of this country and those who live here . We go by our days with a blindness to all that is around us, only focusing on the moment and not the gifts given us by friendships, family, the environment, and this incredibly varied humanity that makes this country of ours unique. You have seen things we can only read about, your ups/downs were not only the hills….they are the challenges we all have in life… and you 3 have faced them all …and we who have followed your journal entries have shared your insights. Well done gentlemen, enjoy those last miles with a sense of clarity only a few individuals seem to attain !
You have given us another reason as to our choice of leaving Orange Beach the first weekend in March every year. Too many people! While we are there we are joined by other escapees of the frozen north to enjoy the blissful and beautiful vistas of the Gulf. 400 miles! Wow! I am in awe of you, Odie and Bob. You will forever be my adventurous heros.
